I’ve prompted the artificial intelligence chatbot to write poetry, to craft a short story about my mom’s pets, and to describe my business, an example of which is below. If you’ve been at all curious as to how you might use Chat GPT to assist you in the creative process, check out the results of my own experimentation.
First, you need to go to the Open AI web site and create an account. You can also download the app on your phone, and sign in using Apple, Google, or email. Then, you will be asked to verify a few details, and authenticate your device. It only takes a few minutes, and you can begin using Chat GPT immediately thereafter.

The Open AI web site has posted a disclaimer as to what you can expect from their generative AI software, and what it cannot, or should not, be used for. It cannot provide real-time stock advice, nor can you use it to obtain a medical diagnosis. You will be amazed, though, by what Chat GPT can do for you. Read on.
After having a bit of fun typing in silly things, I prompted Chat GPT with the following:

I don’t mind telling you, the Chat GPT generated result blew me away. The only slight inaccuracy in the above is that we do not actually sell handbags. We sell accessories for handbags, such as purse charms and zipper pulls.
Then, I decided to experiment with the idea of AI generated product descriptions. Unfortunately, many artists, designers, or product resellers struggle to compose intriguing descriptions that make their offerings irresistible. No matter how exquisite your products may be, it might be difficult to get across what makes them special. You’ve heard that “a picture is worth a thousand words,” but sometimes, you need the words.
If the powers of description seem to have eluded you, then try Chat GPT. I’ve never had difficulty composing fully fleshed out descriptions of my products, mainly because of the specific needs of my customers, most of whom are likely to be blind or visually impaired, as my products feature messages embossed in braille. Since many of my customers cannot see the photos that accompany the product listing, I had better ensure there is a thorough rundown of all the item particulars, so that they can make an informed shopping decision.
Still, I thought I’d let Chat GPT have a crack at composing an enticing product description. I’ve been working on a design idea that is not yet finished, and I was curious what Chat GPT might come up with to describe my work in progress. This is what I prompted:

Frankly, I found this description, the result of the one sentence prompt, to be remarkable. In fact, the charms that were mentioned are charms I plan to include in the design, as they are used in a few of the coordinating pieces that already exist on my web site. The further description of the versatility and adjustability of the as-yet-unrealized design floored me. It felt as if Chat GPT had read my mind. With just a few additional details that I would include on the actual product description, such as the measurements and suggestions as to how to wear it, I could easily cut-and-paste the AI generated text and use it on my web site. Extraordinary.
If nothing else, if you are an artist or designer who sometimes struggles to dream up inviting descriptions of your offerings, type up a few simple prompts, include the basics of your design, and see what Chat GPT can create for you. Even if you have a completed product in front of you that you can fully describe, let Chat GPT expand on a bare-bones prompt, and compare it to what you’ve already written. You can then edit the result if you want to change the tone, length, or specific details. Imagine what this technology can do for you if writing isn’t your strong suit.
